The project sought to meet the needs of the indigenous village Boa Vista, communicated to us by APOTI through one of its main leaders, Txana Ikakuru, through the implementation of an efficient lighting system that contemplates 100% of the indigenous dwellings in this community. In this village there was already a small installation made in April 2015 as part of the benefits achieved by the Huni Kuin video game development project Huni Kuin: Yube Baitana structured in the village’s school, outside the central circle.
The new facility aimed to expand, strengthen and confer longevity of this system, reaching 100% of the illuminated houses, including across the river. With this new project we could buy high quality equipment (such as controllers, inverters, solar panels and batteries), in distinction to the equipment that existed there, scarce and of inferior quality. Before our arrival, the local leaders managed the construction of a new wooden house where the new local culture spot would be installed, and it would store some equipment of the solar system.
Boa Vista solar system so was split in three parts: old installation (1), new main installation (2), and the other side of the river (3). At the new installation all the wiring and the lamps have been replaced. There were also installed four new large size solar panels, and 8 new large size batteries. There were already three panels and three batteries of the previous installation. The Boa Vista village has an entirely new system, reliable, well dimensioned in terms of capacity and energy consumption and with good durability.
The second-hand material (cables and wires) was taken to Bari village, home of the parents of Txana Ikakuru, leadership of the village Boa Vista. There were installed two large solar panels and four big batteries, all new. The village Bari thus had initial facilities, where were lit some houses, as well as installed a small ‘culture point’ to recharge electronic equipment. The whole system is operating normally and reached a community that had no source of electric power, transforming the reality of many people, who received with great joy this project.
